Stuck in That Big - Bad - Decorating Rut in Sky?
by Pamela Tice
Sometimes, we just come up empty when it comes to finding new ways to redecorate the same old space. Sure, we could go crazy and rip out some walls, add in new flooring, and finally pick out those fancy window treatments we have always loved-but that can be a costly game to play and really leave your home a wreck for weeks on end.
But, what happens when our "short and simple" remodeling operations just aren't enough any more? Sometimes painting, blinds, curtains, and some new carpet don't cut it. The room just still has the same feel and look even when we try those old interior design stand-bys. When its time for something new but not yet time for the major renovation, here are a few tricks to try:
Lighting fixturesMirrors, pictures, and other wall decorTable top accessories
A new chandelier or even a great hanging pendant will always add some character and style to the living room without breaking the bank. Just make sure that you choose a ceiling fixture that matches the rest of the decor in the room for a more unified and professional look. Plus, be sure to buy coordinating table lamps for the accent tables and maybe some fancy wall sconces for that dark spot over by the stairs! Remember, the room should be well-illuminated with no bright or dark spots and the fixtures should all be made in the same style with similar materials and designs.
Mirrors, pictures, and other wall decorations are a great way to add some decorative flare to the room without eating up precious floor space. A mirror is a great aesthetic addition to any space and will also help brighten up a dark spot in the room as well. Wall sconces should be considered in this category but should complement the other lighting fixtures in the room. Sometimes, mounting a pair of candles along the wall are enough to set the space apart and give it a new feel. Review new and exciting designs at http://www.barnesandwagner.com.
Table top accessories can be chosen to suit a particular season, holiday, or any special occasion. Magazines and other reading materials always make a subtle yet classy addition to a coffee table. A nice table lamp will also set off any accent table while also providing additional task lighting for the area. Other ideas for the table tops include: accent lamps, centerpieces, candles, and figurines or collectibles.
When you don't have the time, energy, or even the funds for a major overhaul but want to make a real change to the space, try some of the simple ideas listed above for a welcome breath of fresh air and new take on your room.
